Avoid going on Tilt

TILT is something you should always try to avoid as long as you are in poker. Almost every poker player goes through periods when the emotions at the table are taking over. It can be frustration over previous hands or just anger that the play has not been fair and eventually it gets too much. You will always here players talk about getting on tilt after some bad beats, or how they on the other hand managed to take advantage of an opponent that was clearly tilted. The feeling of a tilted player is usually that he or she can’t control the game and feel they are constantly an underdog that has to depend on some lucky cards.

So how can you as a player avoid tilting? There are certain signs that every player should take notice of in order to know when tilt is on the way. Maybe the clearest thing to avoid is to play when you are tired. In that case you should stop the session immediately; however this is not always the easiest thing to do. It is very easy to make mistakes when you are tired and it takes much less in general to put you on tilt. You will be more sensitive to bad beats, which most players know will happen during a game. Those things can throw you in tilt very fast.

Many times players realize they are on tilt but still continue the game. In those occasions they are only depending on lucky cards that can save them. Every player get bad beats and misses every draw etc in some periods, but it is how you deal with those situations that can prove to be a major difference in the long run. Frustration has proven to be a big part of the game, and how you can handle it when it comes to you. The only recommended thing to do is to get away from the game for some time to calm down and see if something could have been done different.

You should also be aware of other poker players trying to put you on tilt, maybe after they have beaten you on the river for example. If you want to be a winning player you can’t let any comments or similar situations make you change your game.
