Become a winning poker player

If you want to be a winning poker player it is important that you have the correct “long term” thinking in all situations. You should think of poker as a lifelong game that just continues. To be able to handle this there is many situations where you need to be strong and focused. No poker player is constantly winning day in and day out. You can have losing hours, days or maybe weeks but what counts is that you make a profit in the long run. This is the first goal you need to set up as a poker player.

Sometimes poker beginners tend to look to close and draw too deep conclusions over only one session or even a single hand. This is most often a big mistake. Lets say you are experiencing a bad beat where your opponent goes all-in with a weak draw, where you flopped high pair or three of a kind etc, and hits on the river card. In these situations you should calculate if you win on your play in the long run, instead of starting thinking you should have played different. You can think what you would do if you would be in the exact same situation again. You will realize you made a correct play and that you will make a profit with this play. Of course it takes concentration and focus from you, but that is important to avoid tilt for example. This applies even more for online poker where you are able to play a huge amount of hands in shorter time.

The goal is always make the best possible move in all situations. You will of course get beaten sometimes even if you do this but you need to put the short term out of your mind to be a successful poker player. Then you will have good chance of getting great results at the poker tables.
