Caribbean Stud Poker Strategy

Caribbean Stud is a five-card poker game where you play against the casino.
To start the game you have to place a bet in the Ante box. You can also place a $1 progressive bet on the marked space. If you are dealt a big hand, a flush, full house, four-of-a-kind, straight flush or royal flush you will win additional money with this extra bet.
The player is dealt a five-card hand; the dealer is also dealt five cards of which only one is exposed. The player now either folds, losing his ante, or bets an additional amount equal to exactly twice the ante. The dealer then reveals his remaining four cards.
If the dealer’s hand is not Ace-King high or better, the player is paid even money on the ante and their secondary bet is returned with no additional money.
If the dealer’s hand is A-K high, or better, he will play his hand against each player based on traditional poker hand rankings.
If your hand beats the Dealer’s, you win even money on your Ante bet. For your raise, the payout are as follows:
Pair 1:1 Two Pair 2:1 Three-of-a-kind 3:1 Straight 4:1 Flush 5:1 Full House 7:1 Four-of-a-kind 20:1 Straight Flush 50:1 Royal Flush 100:1
If the dealer beats your hand you will loose both the ante and the bet.
For the progressive side bet you will win the jackpot with a royal flush and 10% of the jackpot with a straight flush. Payouts on other hands differ from casino to casino. A flush pays 50-100, full house 75-150, four of a kind 100-500.
The best strategy for the player is to always raise with a pair or higher. Fold with a hand worse than A-K high. If you have A-K high you should raise if the dealers exposed card match one of your cards, makes it less likely he will hit a pair.
Don’t make the progressive side bet unless the jackpot is really high. This is in most cases a very bad bet.
The house edge for Caribbean Stud Poker is a little over 5%.
