Fantasy Football – The New American Pass Time

by admin on April 9, 2012

Fantasy sports football is a fantasy sports game where those who participate are called “owners” and are arranged into a fantasy football league. Through an auction method, each team acquires real-life football players and then acquires points based on the actual statistical performance of the players on their team.

The players that are elected to be on the league are either from the NFL or the NCAA, but can only be from one of those as the players cannot be a mixture of both leagues. If all agree on this method, the winner will be based on the team with the most points at the end of the season. The other method commonly used is that each week the teams play head-to-head, which means at the end of the season the winner will be decided based on the win-loss records.

These leagues normally consist of 8-14 teams and there are three types such as redraft, dynasty leagues, and keeper leagues. Redraft is where the owners start out with no players at the beginning of the season in order to draft an entirely new fantasy football team. Keeper leagues are able to retain a certain number of their players from season to season, and a dynasty league is allowed to retain as many of their players as they like from previous seasons.

Fantasy sports football is a lot of fun since the “owners” can participate in fantasy drafts, dropping players, and trading players. These things are done to preserve a competitive roster that increases the competition and the suspense of fantasy football. With that, it is not a mystery as to why fantasy sports football has been a popular pastime of sports enthusiasts since 1962. It gives participants a great hobby that keeps them up-to-date on the sports world and gives them a little bit of competition in their life.
